I first picked up a camera purely out of boredom when i was living in Kalgoorlie, slaving away in the mines in the effort to regain any creativity I had left that hadn't already been drained from the monotonous job I had.
With not much to work with it was purely landscapes and street photography until I upgraded the canon kit with a macro lens which added some excitement into the regular shoots which allowed me to dive into the close up and personal lives of whatever insect or bug I could see terrorising the back yard or spiders lurking in their webs.
I didn't take photography seriously until I moved back to Albany and started doing boudoir shoots and started submitting some shots to magazines where I was noticed by a surf skate lifestyle mag and scored myself a 6 page spread of my work.
I started picking up extra work through some clothing labels and boutiques which inspired me to become more creative with my shoots. I was lucky enough to score a job at a surf resort in the Mentawais, being a surf photographer, hard life really, surf everyday, take photos and drink bintangs under the coconut trees on the beach watching the sun set over the horizon looking back on the day that was.
After that trip I put the camera down due to not having the time because of work then ending up doing the standard party euro trip and moved to London. I had every intention of picking the camera back up whilst living abroad but nerves go the better of me and had lost all confidence in myself thinking I wouldn't be able to produce the work I had once before and had no idea what direction to head in to get the ball rolling so i put it in the too complicated box.
After I returned to Aus I lived in Sydney and tinkered in a few shoots with some friends but the hunger didn't stick until years later when I met and fell in love with the one and only Teagan O'Brien AKA O'Brien Originals. We were heading down south for a romantic get away but she had a wedding on so I planned to go for a surf and meet up with her later but she convinced to me come and help and be a second shooter and the fire in my belly was reignited.
Since working with Teagan for the better part of 2022 i've transitioned into Videography which i never thought of before but let me say how fulfilling it is to watch the footage once its all edited and put together. To see the smiles, the laughter and the tears is so rewarding to know that 2 strangers have entrusted you in one of the biggest, if not the biggest day of their lives and when you deliver that finished product, to have the positive feed back and to know how touched in that moment they are from something you've produced, nothing can top that feeling and thats why I love doing what I do.
